Barbara Schnurr is a Certified Recovery Peer Support Specialist with a Criminal Justice Endorsement and a passionate recovery advocate dedicated to helping others find hope, healing, and a life beyond addiction.
After more than 25 years of addiction, trauma, homelessness, and involvement with the criminal justice system, Barbara transformed her life through recovery, faith, connection, and God's grace. Today, she uses her lived experience to support others through peer support, case management, community outreach, and recovery advocacy.
Barbara has served in Sarasota County Jail and Manatee County Jail, providing recovery support and encouraging individuals to recognize that their past does not have to determine their future. She is committed to breaking the stigma of addiction and advocating for treatment, reentry, and meaningful pathways to recovery.
Barbara believes God used her pain for a purpose—not only to transform her own life, but to give her a voice to reach back and help the next person find hope.
Her message is simple: You are loved. You matter. You are not alone. Your past does not define you. And with God, EVERYTHING is possible.
